Sunday

Peter worked today, so it was just me and the boys at home.

 

Peter usually takes the boys swimming every Sunday morning,

but today they had another water activity to keep them amused.

I let them have the hose in the sand pit,

they made lakes, rivers, tunnels

and a beach.

They played here for 3 hours and not 1 dispute!

I got so much done, planted spring onions,

sweet peas, stawberries, mowed

cooked a lovely tea (if I do say so myself) 

and did heaps of washing.

Thanks for being such delightful boys today!

Retro Swap

A while ago, I participated in a Retro Swap

organised by Bec at Fun With Little Wise Owl

I have a large box of knitting and crochet patterns

that I picked up at a garage sale a while ago.

The lovely ladies above featured in one book.

I scanned the picture and printed it onto some calico,

then used this to make a needle case.

The floral print is from my

mother-in-laws, mother-in-laws stash,

and the pink gingham, bloggless Judy passed onto me.

My needle case went off to

Linda made these delightful wall hangings for the boys

from some vintage fabric.

The are absolutely perfect!

Linda also included some of her lovely creations

for me....thanks Linda.

Another Quilt Finished

I have finally completed Second Borns Quilt.

On each square, I free motioned stars,

then just machine quilted through the sashing.

I'm really happy with how it turned out,

Mitchell is too, which is the main thing.

The Robot Scarecrow

This is our robot scarecrow "Rusty",

thought I would do a post about scarecrows for

Week 5 of Kinder Gardens

The boys and I created him for Peters birthday earlier this year.

(If you look closely, you will see he is a boy....)

We had a trip to the scrap metal yard

to collect some bits and pieces for him.

If you have little boys -

I would highly recomend a trip to a scrap metal yard

They loved it and could have spent hours there!

While driving back from Melbourne last weekend

I went through a little tiny town, Buangor

on the Western Highway.

They had a scarecrow competition,

the comp was over,

but there seemed to be a musical theme.

I stopped and had a look.

This is "Hey Diddle Diddle"

This one is "Elvis"

This is an "Indiginous" scarecrow

And this was the clear winner.

"The Pied Piper"

He was extremely tall and a lot of work had gone into him.

Look at the detail, I would love to make one of these......

Missing Teeth

This weeks Christmas Handmade Challenge

is a practical one.

During the recent school holidays,

the first born lost his first top tooth,

then last weekend, the other one finally came out.

When the tooth fairy was expected in the past,

we covered a glass jar in glitter and the tooth

was carefully place inside with much anticipation.

Then I found these!

At.. Pixel Plus Paper Paraphernalia

I bought them quite a while ago,

and have patiently been waiting for loose teeth

so we could use them.

You place the tooth in the envelope

and you fill out on the envelope

who, when, where, no. tooth & the story.

In the morning, the tooth fairy had left her envelope

with a lovely funny poem on it.

Kinder Gardens -Let Them Get Dirty!

We are playing along with Kim and her camel,

over at

The Inadvertant Farmer

encouraging children to grow and eat their own vegie's.

 Our boy's are already very involved in our vegie patch,

but they don't have their own little plot.

Recently though, First and Second born have

started their own little

compost and worm farms in a box.

We have had a chat, and the boys have decided

to build a "Pea Tent".

A while ago, I picked up

this tent

and had still not made a new cover.

The boys have decided to use it at a climbing frame

for the crop of peas.

We have placed it behind the vegie patch

under the grape vine pergola.

It's Autumn here in Australia so

the grape vine leaves will be gone shortly.

Next job is to plant the peas.

Jerusalem Artichokes

This the haul of Jerusalem Artichokes we harvested this weekend.

It's from just 2 plants!

Some were missing from the shot,

they were roasted for Saturday nights dinner.

Last spring a friend gave us some

Jerusalem Artichokes to plant.

We did not really know what to do with them,

Peter dug up a bit of ground under the grape vines,

planted them and left them to their own devices.

If they wilted, we gave them a bit of water.

Poor things probably felt a bit neglected watching

Peter and the boys fuss over the rest of the vegie patch.

Little almost 4, calls them "tomatychokes"

Saturday, the first plant was dug up

exposed, was lots of lovely treasure.

We will leave the rest in the ground until they are needed.

I bet they get a little more attention next year!

We have roasted some of them,

they taste a little like a cross between parsnip and a potato,

with a little nutty flavour as well.
